Clinical Audit / R&D

For Staff

It is our intention to provide support for clinical audit and R & D to all healthcare professionals and health service workers, allowing them to make informed judgements for improving the quality of patient care. We will do this by:

ensuring valid and rigorous clinical audit is undertaken

providing technical and practical support to all staff undertaking clinical audit / R & D (following the department’s Code of Good Practice)

promoting clinical audit / R & D throughout the Trust, ensuring the results of studies and examples of good practice are disseminated to all appropriate staff (via reports, presentations, clinical focus newsletter and annual report)

making training and advice on audit / R & D and related topics available to all staff

liaison and co-operation with other organisations (educational, primary care, other hospitals, Social Services etc

For Patients

It is our intention, through clinical audit / R & D to help ensure that high quality patient care is provided by all areas of the Trust. We will do this by evaluating:

the outcomes for patients

the equipment and resources used

the way care is given

the views of patients about the care they are given

Who can use the department?

All Professions Allied to Medicine, Nurses (trained and untrained), Medical staff, Management and Administration staff

When should you use our services?

Whenever you want to learn more about audit / R & D or when you want to check on or improve upon the quality of patient care you provide. Normally this will be an aspect of care which:

frequently occurs, involves risk, follows on from a problem or perceived concern, is costly

We can assist you with all or any of the following:

topic selection and project planning, retrieval of healthcare records, advice regarding collection, collation, analysis and presentation of results

identifying and implementing changes to improve patient care

providing training workshops
